Petkova Named FCSAA Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After starring at the Dalton Overstreet Invitational in Prescott, Arizona over the weekend, Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Maria Petkova has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week for week two of the 2021 season.

Petkova led the Bucs to a 3-1 weekend including wins over #2 Snow and #16 Yavapai, averaging 3.4 kills and 3.6 digs per set in the four contests. She had a pair of double-doubles on the weekend, going for 18 kills and 15 digs in the Bucs' opener against Yavapai and wrapping up the weekend with 15 kills, 19 digs, and a career high 5 blocks against Snow.

On the season Petkova is averaging 3.6 kills and 3.4 digs per set, making her one of just two players in the state of Florida to average 3 or more kills and 3 or more digs per set so far this year.

It is the second straight week for a Buc to earn a Player of the Week honor after freshman Julia Lawrenz was named the FCSAA Defensive Player of the Week last week.

Petkova and the Bucs are currently 5-2 on the year and ranked #6 in the country.

FSW is back in action tonight at home at Suncoast Credit Union Arena when they take on #3 Miami Dade in a huge early season Suncoast Conference matchup with the Sharks.  Prior to the game, the Bucs will unveil their 2020 Suncoast Conference Championship and NJCAA National Tournament banners.
