Bucs State Tournament Run Keeps Them at #6 in Final National Rankings

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Finishing as the FCSAA State Runners-Up last week, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers held their spot at #6 in the final NJCAA National Ranking of 2020-2021.

The Bucs went 3-2 at the FCSAA State Tournament last week, earning a pair of 3-0 wins over #8 Polk State and one over 2019 National Quarterfinalist Hillsborough.  Their only two losses of the week came to #1 ranked and undefeated Miami Dade, the first a 3-2 heartbreaker before a 3-0 defeat in the Championship game.  FSW is 19-6 overall on the year with seven wins over Top 15 ranked opponents and six wins against the Top 10.

There was no movement at all in the top 12 teams in the poll with Miami Dade remaining #1 and Odessa, Snow, Utah State-Eastern, and Iowa Western filling out the Top 5 right in front of the Bucs at #6.  Wallace State was this week's biggest gainer, going from #16 to #13 while Panola tumbled four spots from #13 to #17 after two straight 3-0 losses last week.  Florida was well represented in the final poll of the year with six Sunshine State teams represented.  Miami Dade at #1, FSW at #6, Polk State at #8, Santa Fe at #16, Daytona State at #19, and Indian River at #20.

The Bucs finished as the #2 team at the FCSAA State Tournament Sunday, earning themselves a bid to the NJCAA Southeast District Championships. FSW will square off there against the Region 10 Champion Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers Friday at 2:00 PM in Jacksonville with a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament on the line.
