Retamales Signs With FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern fans who have come to know and love Macarena Retamales the past three seasons won't have to go far to watch her compete next year as the Buccaneers' sophomore guard has signed at Florida Gulf Coast University for the 2023-2024 season.

Retamales is the Bucs leading scorer this season, averaging 17.0 points per game through 10 contests.  She is on pace to flirt with becoming just the third 1,000 point scorer in FSW history, currently sitting at 640 which is 6th best of any Buc all time. As a second year freshman last year, Retamales was a 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-State pick for the Bucs, averaging 13.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while leading FSW to their fifth straight Conference Championship.

Retamales signs with one of the top Division I programs in the country in D1, a season after the Eagles pulled off a first round upset over Virginia Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  This season FGCU is off to a 7-1 start with their only loss of the season coming to #2 Stanford.

Retamales is the first in the FSW sophomore class of 2023 to sign her National Letter of Intent, with five others expected to sign later this season.
