Downs, Vargas-Reyes to Represent Bucs at NJCAA All-Star Weekend

ATLANTA, GA.- Following standout freshmen seasons, Florida SouthWestern State stars Za'Nautica Downs and Nairmiar Vargas-Reyes have been chosen as the Buccaneers first representatives at the annual NJCAA All-Star Weekend this summer in Atlanta.

Downs was a 1st Team All-Suncoast Conference pick for the Bucs as a freshman this season.  She finished second on the team, averaging 15.4 points per contest, while leading FSW in steals with 2.8 per night.  She scored in bunches during her rookie season, going for 20 or more 10 different times including a 29 point performance against the eventual National Champion Gulf Coast State Commodores in the FCSAA State Tournament.

Vargas-Reyes was a 2nd Team All-Conference selection during her first year in Fort Myers.  The Puero Rico native put together solid all around numbers, scoring 8.1 points, grabbing 5.5 rebounds, and dishing out 1.2 assists per game.  She scored in double figures 11 times, including all four of the Bucs postseason games in 2019.  In two NJCAA National Tournament games she averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists for FSW.

The pair will become the first Bucs to play in the 11th annual event July 19-22 in Atlanta.  After being split into teams, players will go through a workout day on Saturday with their new squads before playing games on Sunday and Monday of the event.
