Stephens Nets Bucs First 1st Team All-American Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- For the first time in program history, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers have a First Team NJCAA All-American.  After becoming the first NJCAA All-American in program history last season, FSW sophomore Tina Stephens upped it one more this season, garnering First Team honors as announced by the organization on Monday.

Stephens powered FSW to its best season in program history this year, leading them to a Suncoast Conference Championship and their first appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament with a 30-4 overall record.  She averaged 20.0 points per game on the year, coming up big in the Bucs biggest games of the season, averaging 22.3 points per game in conference play and 23.0 points per game in FSW's four postseason contests.  Stephens was also a force on the defensive end for FSW this season, leading the team with 2.8 steals per game and 1.4 blocked shots per game, while finishing second on the club with 7.4 rebounds per contest.

Stephens single handedly rewrote the FSW record books over the past two seasons.  She finished as the all-time leader in a plethora of statistical categories including points (1071), scoring average (17.0), field goal percentage (.532), free throws made (329), rebounds (490), and steals (150) among others.  Her 619 points, 207 field goals, and 86 steals in 2018-19 all set FSW single season records.

Stephens was one of four All-Americans from the Sunshine State and one of two first teamers, joining Tallahassee's Juliunn Redmond (First Team), Gulf Coast's Alexus Dye (Second Team), and Miami Dade's Daliyah Brown (Honorable Mention) on the list.

Stephens has not yet made her decision for the next step in her playing career, but has had interest from a number of Power 5 schools among others.
