Ames Fires Way to FCSAA Pitcher of the Week Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After firing nine shutout innings over a pair of FSW wins, Buccaneers righty Esmee Ames has been named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week in a state release on Tuesday.

Ames was 1-0 in a pair of appearances for the Bucs last week, allowing just two hits in nine shutout innings while striking out 12 and walking just three.  Tuesday against Miami Dade she was electric, spinning a complete game shutout, missing her second no-hitter of the season by just a fifth inning single, while striking out 10 Sharks and walking just one to improve to 11-4 on the year.  Thursday she drew the start again against Polk State and threw two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts before exiting a 12-0 Buccaneers run rule win.

Ames has thrown in 21 games for the Bucs this season, going 11-4 with three saves. She has logged 67 innings, striking out 87 with a 1.46 ERA, both of which rank in the top five in the FCSAA this season.

Ames and the Bucs are back in action this afternoon when they take on St. Petersburg in a 3 PM doubleheader start from Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater.
