WINTER HAVEN, Fla.- Going into Thursday's doubleheader against Polk State, Florida SouthWestern freshman Skylar Brennan had one career home run. She came out of the twinbill with triple that number as she launched longballs in both ends of the doubleheader with #3 FSW taking game one 5-2 and game two 12-0 to improve to 34-4 on the year.

The Bucs got the scoring going in game one as Skylar Brennan doubled and Virginia Mambelli launched a two run home run behind her to put FSW on top 2-0 in the top half of the 1st inning.

Bucs starter Lea Chevrier was dialed in early as she struck out the side in the bottom of the 1st , but the Bucs defense let her down in the 2nd as Polk got an unearned run to cut the lead in half to 2-1.

The Eagles threatened to tie the game in the 3rd as they got a two out single to right with a runner in scoring position, but Brennan gunned down the runner trying to score and kept FSW in front 2-1 after three.

Brennan wasn't ready to give up the spotlight when she took the plate to lead off the 4th , drilling a solo home run out to right to give the Bucs some breathing room as they extended the lead to 3-1.

The Bucs added to their lead in the 5th as Sydney McCray laced a two out RBI double to left to make it a 4-1 game.

A leadoff walk cost the Bucs a run in the bottom of the 5th as Polk cut the lead to 4-2, but FSW cushioned the lead back to three in the top of the 7th as D'Yani McKinley legged out a bunt single, stole second, and scored on a Polk error to make it a 5-2 game.

That was more than enough for Chevrier who finished what she started, working a 1-2-3 bottom of the 7th to close the Eagles out and give the Bucs a 5-2 victory in game one.

Chevrier went the distance in the circle, allowing four hits and two runs, just one earned, while striking out eight to improve to 16-0 on the year. Brennan went 2-3 with a home run and two runs scored while Kmari Williams was 1-2 with a career high three stolen bases to lead the offense.

The Bucs didn't need to do much to take an early lead in game two as a pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases and two more walks forced runs in to give FSW a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st.

The Bucs opened things up in the 2nd as Paige Lassiter doubled down the left field line to drive a run home and Brennan launched her second home run of the day to dead center to make it a 5-0 game. Later in the frame Ella Moore found a hole on the right side for an RBI single to give FSW a 6-0 lead at the end of two.

The merry go round for the Bucs on the bases continued in the 3rd as Sietske Drijvers smoked an RBI double the other way and scored on an infield single from Maddy Golka to up the Bucs lead to 8-0.

It was more of the same for FSW in the 4th as Katey McGee drove home a run with a groundout and Drijvers drilled a two run triple the other way to plate two more to put the Bucs in front 12-0 at the end of four.

The Bucs were held off the board for the first time in the game in the 5th , but it didn't matter as FSW reliever Leah Meyer dialed up three straight strikeouts in the bottom half of the inning to close things out and give the Bucs a 12-0 run rule win in five.

Meyer and Esmee Ames combined for a four hit shutout in the win with Meyer earning the decision to improve to 4-0 on the year with three innings of three hit ball with seven strikeouts. Drijvers finished 2-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs while Brennan drove home three and reached base in all three of her plate appearances.

FSW improves to 34-4 overall and 21-3 in Citrus Conference play with the victories where they take over first place in the conference standings at the midway point. Polk falls to 8-26 overall and 2-22 in league play with the losses.

The Bucs have the weekend off before returning to action on the road on Tuesday when they travel up the coast to take on St. Petersburg in Clearwater in a doubleheader beginning at 3 PM.
