DOTHAN, Ala.- Teams from the state of Alabama will be happy to know that the #1 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers won't be back to the Cotton State again until May as the Bucs dominated two more teams from Alabama on Saturday in Dothan, beating Central Alabama 7-2 and Southern Union 11-3 to wrap up a 4-0 weekend against teams from the state while remaining unbeaten this season at 8-0.

In their first game of the day the Bucs squared off with the Trojans of Central Alabama.

It didn't take the Bucs long to jump on the Trojans as speedsters Sydney McCray and D'Yani McKinley reached base to start the game and created havoc on the basepaths before both scoring to give FSW a quick 2-0 lead.

The Bucs were back at it in the 2nd as McCray drove home a run with a single and McKinley did the same on a sacrifice fly to double the lead to 4-0. Later in the inning Sietske Drijvers lifted a sac fly of her own to center to put FSW up 5-0 at the end of two.

Bucs starter Lea Chevrier cruised through the 3rd with her shutout intact, but the Trojans scratched out a run in the 4th on a wild pitch to cut the Bucs lead to 5-1 as the teams went to the 5th.

FSW got the run back in the 6th as Nicole Edmiaston singled to lead off the inning and Katey McGee came in to run for her, swiping second and then scoring on the Bucs third sac fly of the game to make it 6-1.

The teams traded runs in their next at bats and that was all she wrote as FSW closed it out for a 7-2 win in the 7th.

The Bucs outhit the Trojans 9-3 in the game with Maddy Golka and K'Mari Williams both going 2-2 and McCray finishing 2-3 with three runs scored at the top of the lineup. Chevrier improved to 4-0 on the year in the circle, going four innings and allowing just one hit and one run while striking out four before giving way to Emily Allegood who picked up her first career save with three inning of one run ball to close things out.

For the second straight game, the Bucs jumped out in front 2-0 right off the bat as Drijvers nailed a two run double to center in the top of the 1st in FSW's matchup with Southern Union to put the Bucs up two right away.

The Bison cut the Bucs lead in half in the 3rd, loading the bases with one out before a walk pushed a run home and made it a 2-1 game. Esmee Ames came out of the FSW bullpen and diverted any further damage, getting a pop up on the infield and then a ground ball back to herself that she took care of to keep the Bucs in front 2-1.

The Bucs got the run back and then some in their next trips to the plate as Paige Lassiter drilled an RBI double to left to make it 3-1 and two batters later McKinley knocked in two with a single through the right side to stretch the lead to 5-1.

The Bucs blew the game open in the 5th as Golka launched the Bucs first home run of the weekend over the left field wall for a two run shot to make it 7-1 and later in the inning McCray laid down a bunt and beat it out at first to allow another run to score to cushion the lead to 8-1. The Bucs weren't done yet as Ella Moore came in off the FSW bench and delivered a two run double before Mia Terito walked with the bases loaded later in the inning to make it an 11-1 game.

Central Alabama made things interesting, pushing a pair of runs across in the bottom of the 5th, but Ames shut it down from there, kicking in the run rule with the Bucs finishing off an 11-3 win in five.

The Bucs banged out 12 hits from nine different players in the win. McCray and McKinley were once again in the middle of the onslaught as McCray finished 3-4 with a pair of stolen bases while McKinley was 2-3 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Ames earned her third win of the year, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three.

The Bucs remain unbeaten on the season at a perfect 8-0 following a 4-0 weekend in Alabama that saw them outscore their competition 34-6.

The wins set up a showdown in Fort Myers on Thursday as the Bucs take on 7-1 Southern Idaho in doubleheader action at Buccaneers Park beginning at 1 PM before hosting the Paradise Cove Classic at Lee Health Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday.
