FSW's Lawton Named NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Following a week in which she spun six perfect innings over two Florida SouthWestern State contests, Buccaneer sophomore hurler Sarah Lawton has been named the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week as announced on Wednesday.

Lawton fired the first perfect game in FSW history last week in the Bucs win over Polk State.  She dazzled against the Eagles, retiring all 15 batters she faced in an 8-0 run rule victory.  She also threw a perfect  inning on Tuesday against South Florida State to give her six innings pitched without allowing a baserunner on the week.  Earning another win on Tuesday with four scoreless innings, Lawton is  now 9-1 on the year with six saves to lead the NJCAA while posting a 1.45 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 77 1/3 innings on the season.

Lawton is the second Buccaneer pitcher to earn the honors this season after teammate Kelsi Collins picked them up in week one of the season.

Lawton and the Bucs are back in action at home on Thursday as they take on Hillsborough in a Suncoast Conference doubleheader beginning at 5 PM at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers.
