FSW Climbs to #5 in NJCAA Top 25 Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The 10-0 FSW Buccaneers jumped five spots to #5 in the NJCAA Top 25 rankings on Tuesday as the organization released their first regular season poll of 2018-19.

After starting the year ranked 10th in the Preseason Top 25, the Bucs are off to an unblemished start at 10-0 including wins over previously ranked #5 Eastern Florida State and #8 Salt Lake.  The two top 10 wins put the Bucs in a class of their own as the only team in the country to boast that on their resume thus far.

FSW is off to a solid start offensively through 10 games, averaging just under 94 points per game while shooting 51% as a team from the floor.  Defensively they have been equally as impressive, holding opponents to just 68.9 points a night and 36% shooting which ranks fourth in the country.

Leading the first poll of the regular season is Northwest Florida State, South Plains, Vincennes, and Coffeyville who have combined for a 41-1 mark thus far.  Behind the Bucs, the rest of the top 10 is Trinity Valley, Hutchinson, Odessa, Barton, and Salt Lake.  Other Region VII schools to make their way in along with the Bucs and Northwest Florida are Tallahassee at #12, Chipola at #18, and Daytona State at #23.

The Bucs are back in action this weekend when they travel to Ocala to take part in the 2018 Florida Juco Shootout.  Saturday they will take on Pensacola State followed by a top 5 matchup with #1 Northwest Florida State on Sunday at 2 PM.

The Buccaneers compete in the brand new Suncoast Credit Union Arena. Suncoast Credit Union Arena is approximately 75,000 square feet and is home to the FSW basketball teams and a student athletic center. The arena seats approximately 3,300 fans and includes six skyboxes, a hospitality event center, competition courts that convert into recreational courts, athletic office space, student, faculty and staff wellness, and an athletic center with a fitness pavilion, men's and women's locker rooms and a weight training area. The arena has two Daktronics displays, on the north and south walls, that each measure 10 feet high by 20 feet wide. Both displays incorporate variable content zoning to each show one large image or they can be divided into multiple windows to show any variety of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages. One-hundred feet of ribbon displays have been installed on the east and west walls of the arena. The ribbons provide the opportunity to supplement the content on the main displays as well as highlight sponsors throughout events.
