Pereira Earns FCSAA Player of the Week Nod

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After leading the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers to a perfect 4-0 week last week, redshirt freshman utility man Nik Pereira has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week in a state release Tuesday.

Pereira continued to swing a red hot bat for the Bucs last week, hitting .400 with 10 RBIs in four FSW victories. Pereira had at least one hit and one RBI in all four games last week. He opened the week with a bang, hitting a go ahead grand slam for the Bucs in the 7th inning of their 9-4 win over New College of Florida.  Thursday against St. Petersburg in the Bucs Citrus Conference opener he finished with two hits and three RBIs in an 8-5 extra innings win for the Bucs. Saturday he was back at it, notching three hits and three RBIs in the Bucs doubleheader sweep of the Titans to clinch the series sweep.

On the season Pereira is hitting .419 through 10 games played, smacking a pair of home runs and driving in a team high 22 runs which currently ranks 2nd in the state of Florida and 5th Nationally.

With Pereira capturing the Player of the Week award this week, it gives the Bucs a clean sweep on the Division I side after teammate Jordan Huskey was named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week as well on Tuesday.

Pereira and the Bucs are back in action Tuesday afternoon on the road in Lake Worth when they take on Palm Beach in a 2 PM first pitch from Florida's East Coast.
