Shaver's Big Week Earns Him FCSAA Player of the Week Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern sophomore AJ Shaver continued to make history this week, after extending upon his Bucs single season home run record with four long balls, Shaver became the first player in program history to earn FCSAA Player of the Week honors three times in a season after being announced as the week eight winner by the state on Tuesday.

Shaver remained red hot in four FSW games last week, hitting .600 with four home runs and 15 RBIs for the Bucs. He extended his hitting streak to a season long 17 games this week, his second streak of 14 or more this season.  Monday against Inspiration Academy he was 3-4 with a triple, a home run, and five RBIs, missing hitting for the cycle by just a double.  Wednesday against Indian River he clubbed another homer and was 2-4 with a pair of runs scored against the Pioneers and Friday he extended his home run streak to three games in a major way, cracking a grand slam and a three run shot, going 3-4 and driving in all seven runs for the Bucs in a key Southern Conference victory over #20 Miami Dade.  He was kept in the yard, but extended his hitting streak on Saturday, going 1-3 with a double and two stolen bases as the Bucs punched their ticket to the postseason with a win over Eastern Florida at Buccaneers Park.

On the season Shaver is hitting .402 with 21 doubles, 18 home runs, 60 RBIs and 27 stolen bases, making him the only player in the country to boast that combination of numbers.

Shaver was joined on the Player of the Week line this week by teammate Tyler Kennedy who was named the state's Pitcher of the Week.

Shaver and the Bucs close out Southern Conference play Wednesday against Eastern Florida on Sophomore Day at Buccaneers Park with Shaver and his fellow sophomores being honored prior to the game for their efforts to the program.  FSW will then wrap up the regular season on Friday with a date against A3 Academy at home in Fort Myers.
