Bucs' Shaver Named FCSAA Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Leading the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers to a perfect 4-0 record last week, sophomore outfielder AJ Shaver has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week as announced by the state on Tuesday.

Shaver was red hot for the Bucs last week, recording an extra base hit in each of their four contests.  Tuesday in the Bucs home opener, he was 1-3 with a double, drove in a pair, and stole two bases in an 11-0 win over Inspiration Academy.  Friday he recorded his first three hit game of his career, missing the cycle by just a triple as he went 3-5 with a double, a home run, and two runs scored in a 7-6 win over Pasco-Hernando.  Saturday he put up a pair of multi-hit games in a doubleheader against Pasco, notching matching 2-4, three RBI performances, while homering in both ends of the twinbill sweep against the Bobcats.  Overall, Shaver hit .500 with three doubles, three home runs, and nine RBIs in the Bucs four wins.

Shaver is the first Buc hitter to win the award since Hunter Fitz-Gerald did so March 2nd of 2022.

Bucs fans will have a chance to see Shaver in action twice this week at home as FSW hosts St. Petersburg on Tuesday and A3 Academy on Wednesday with both games scheduled for a 2 PM first pitch.
