Whitney Headed to McPherson

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern State lefthander Matt Whitney will be moving from one Top 25 program to another next season after signing with the McPherson Bulldogs in Kansas this week. 

Whitney has pitched in 13 games for the Suncoast Conference Champion Buccaneers this season, drawing one start and also registering a save.  He has struck out 20 opposing batters in 20 innings of work while posting a 7.20 ERA.  His best outing of the season came against Hillsborough when he threw three innings of no hit baseball in a 6-2 Bucs win over the Hawks.

He will head to another championship caliber program at McPherson who is currently 33-9 on the year and 21-9 in KCAC play.  The Bulldogs are rated 19th in the latest Bo Chip ratings with one series left in the regular season. 

Whitney and the Bucs wrapped up the 2021 regular season with a program record 42 wins and head into the postseason at 42-14 overall.  FSW will open postseason play on Wednesday in the FCSAA State Tournament when they take on Indian River in a 10 AM start from Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. 

Whitney is one of seven Bucs to have signed to move on so far this season, a list that includes Antonio Knowles (Florida), Luis Tuero (Arizona), Carter Cunningham (East Carolina), Marc Davis (South Florida), Warnner Rincones (Louisiana-Lafayette), and Daniel Maldonado (Cumberlands).
