FSW Righthander Inks with FAU

FORT MYERS, FLA.- Following a two year run close to home on the Gulf Coast at Florida SouthWestern State College, Buccaneer righthander Joey Mugavero will make the trip across Alligator Alley to play on the East side of the state at Florida Atlantic University the next two seasons after signing with the Owls on Thursday.

Mugavero was a key cog out of the bullpen this season for the Suncoast Conference Champion Buccaneers.  He threw in 18 ballgames, posting a 2-0 record with two saves while notching a 1.99 ERA in 31 2/3 innings pitched.  He got stronger as the season went on for FSW, allowing just two earned runs over his final 11 appearances of the season, pitching to the tune of a 1.28 ERA during the stretch.

FAU is currently 34-18 on the year and in first place in the Conference USA Standings at 19-8 with one series left to go.  The Owls have won 30 or more games in five straight seasons, have played in three NCAA Regionals in the past four seasons, and are projected by D1Baseball.com as a #2 seed for the 2019 tournament.

Mugavero will join FSW teammate Thomas Haggerty at FAU after he signed with the Owls in the fall.
