Alarcon Signs With UNLV, Headed to Sin City
FORT MYERS, Fla.- With a pair of National Championships and a National Player of the Year honor in tow, Florida SouthWestern sophomore Alondra Alarcon will be packing her bags for Sin City next season after signing her National Letter of Intent with the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she will play for the Rebels during the 2024 season.

Alarcon was named the 2023 VolleyMag National Player of the Year this season after finishing with a program record 374 kills while also breaking the FSW all-time record with 646 in her Buccaneer career. She averaged 3.96 kills per set this season which ranked 6th Nationally while finishing the season as one of just five players in the country, along with teammate Victoria Zibecchi, to average 3.00 or more kills per set while hitting .300 on the year. She had 10 or more kills 21 times this season including all four matches at the National Tournament, giving her 10+ kills in all eight career matches at the big dance.  It wasn't just offense that Alarcon excelled on though as she racked up 13 double-doubles on the season including a career high 24 kill, 22 dig effort against Polk State that earned her NJCAA National Player of the Week honors. She adds the National Player of the Year honor to being a two time 1st Team All-Conference, two time 1st Team All-State, two time NJCAA National Tournament All-Tournament Team selection, and a 2023 1st Team AVCA and NJCAA All-American.

It wasn't just individual success that Alarcon had during her time in Fort Myers though as the Bucs finished 58-2 overall while capturing a pair of Conference Championships, the first two FCSAA State Championships in program history, two NJCAA South Atlantic District Championships, and back to back NJCAA National Championships in 2022 and 2023.

Alarcon will join a UNLV program coming off of a 19-13 campaign this season.  The Rebels qualified for the postseason where they participated in the NIVC Tournament that was ultimately won by Alarcon's 2022 FSW teammate Barbara Koehler and Wichita State. Alarcon will look to replicate the production of a familiar face for Bucs fans in Vegas next season as UNLV will be without the talents of two time Mountain West Player of the Year and former Hillsborough star Isabel Martin who will spend her graduate year at the University of Florida next season.

Alarcon signed Friday alongside FSW teammates Roberta Purashaj (Oregon) and Madu Fontes (Idaho), giving the Bucs four NCAA Division I signees from their 2024 sophomore class after Izzy Collier (Marshall) signed during the early signing period.
