Bucs Trio Earns Postseason Honors
FORT MYERS, Fla.- After winning their second straight NJCAA National Championship with a dominant 31-1 season, Florida SouthWestern stars Roberta Purashaj and Alondra Alarcon as well as Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen have been showered with postseason awards from the ACVA and VolleyballMag.com.  
 
Purashaj and Alarcon were both named All-Americans by the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) as well as VolleyballMag.com.  
 
Purashaj finished third in the NJCAA Division I ranks this season with 11.01 assists per set while leading the Bucs to the top hitting percentage in the country this season with a .316 mark.  The model of consistency, Purashaj averaged 10 or more assists per set in all but two matches this season, dishing out 30 or more assists 22 times including a 57 assist effort in a five set win over Polk State.  Her 1,035 total assists for the Bucs this season was a single season program record while her 1,909 career assists is also far and away an FSW record.  
 
Alarcon finished with a program record 374 kills this season for the Bucs surpassing the FSW all-time career record for kills with 646.  She was one of just five players nationally to average over 3.00 kills per set and hit over .300, finishing with 3.96 kills per set and hitting .306. She had 10 or more kills 21 times this season including all four matches at the National Tournament, giving her 10+ kills in all eight career matches at the big dance.
 
Baziquetto-Allen earned a pair of honors from the AVCA as she was named the Southeast/Northeast Region Coach of the Year as well as earning Volley-Dictorian Coach of the Year while also earning VolleyballMag.com National Coach of the Year honors. 
 
Baziquetto-Allen led the Bucs to their second straight NJCAA National Championship this season with a 31-1 record while capturing their fourth straight Conference Championship and their second straight FCSAA State Championship along the way. The Bucs didn't just win though, they dominated.  FSW earned 18 wins over ranked opponents this season including eight over Top 10 ranked foes. 26 of the Bucs 31 wins on the season came via 3-0 sweeps including five of their seven postseason matches where they lost just two total sets.
