Purashaj Earns Second FCSAA Setter of the Week Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- For the second time this season, Florida SouthWestern sophomore Roberta Purashaj has been named the FCSAA Setter of the Week as announced by the State Office on Tuesday.

Purashaj led the Bucs to a 4-0 week including a Citrus Conference opening win over Hillsborough and their sixth win of the season over a ranked opponent in #15 Monroe on Saturday.  The All-American averaged 11.9 assists per set on the week, while the Bucs hit .335 as a team in their four victories. She opened the week with a 31 assist performance in a win over Hillsborough and dished out 25 in two sets in a 3-0 sweep over Florida State College at Jacksonville on Friday. She finished the week with her best effort, notching a 41 assist, 10 dig double-double as FSW took down #15 Monroe to wrap up the Florida Challenge in Tampa.

Purashaj has continued to prove herself as one of the top setters in the country this season, ranking 3rd in the NJCAA with 11.19 assists per set on the season. Despite all 12 of FSW's games ending in three sets this season, Purashaj has notched 25 or more assists 10 times on the year, and in all 10 matches in which she has played more than one set.  Her 1,221 career assists with the Bucs already ranks 2nd all-time, just 410 behind FSW's program record of 1,631 held by Fiona Baker.

Purashaj's week three selection marks the second time this season and fourth time in her Buccaneer career that she has been named the FCSAA's Setter of the Week.

Purashaj was joined this week on the pedestal by teammate Alondra Alarcon who was named the FCSAA Player of the Week.

Purashaj and the Bucs are back in action on Wednesday at home in Suncoast Credit Union Arena when they host #18 Daytona State in a Citrus Conference matchup beginning at 6:30 PM.
