COVID-19 Timeline

BELOW IS A TIMELINE OF COVID-19 BASED DECISIONS EFFECTING FSW STUDENT-ATHLETES

June 23, 2021-  Florida SouthWestern State College has resumed to normal operations and recommends the use of masks and social distancing inside of all indoor facilities for the 2021-2022 school year. At this time, the FCSAA has no mandatory Covid policies in place for its member institutions.  If needed, those will be put into place and communicated to its members.  

October 22, 2020-  The NJCAA has announced a blanket eligibility waiver for the upcoming 2020-2021 athletic year, meaning that no NJCAA student-athletes will be charged a year of eligibility whether they play or not during their respective seasons. FULL STORY

 

  July 13, 2020- Florida SouthWestern State Athletics fans who were hoping to get back into Suncoast Credit Union Arena to cheer on the Buccaneers this fall will have to wait a little bit longer as Monday, the NJCAA announced that a number of sports, including Volleyball and Basketball, have been moved from fall starts, to January starts due to COVID-19 for the 2020-2021 season. June 26, 2020- After a series of one after another bad news reports regarding COVID-19 ended their 2019-2020 athletics year in March, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got some good news on Thursday as the FCSAA Council of Presidents approved the NJCAA and the FCSAA AD's plans to play the 2020-2021 seasons as planned, beginning in August. March 16, 2020- After careful thought and consideration, the NJCAA has decided to cancel the rest of the 2020 Athletics season due to the rapidly changing situation concerning COVID-19. The cancellation effects the Florida SouthWestern State Men's & Women's Basketball teams as well as the Bucs' Baseball and Softball squads. FULL STORY

March 13, 2020- Due to the continued concern of COVID-19 the the FCSAA has suspended all competitions, effective immediately, through March 28th.   At that time, the organization's Council of Presidents will reaccess the situation and determine whether they feel competition between teams is safe once again. March 12, 2020- Just three days before the scheduled start of the 2020 NJCAA National Basketball Tournaments, the NJCAA has announced that the tournaments will be postponed due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19.  The tournaments will attempt to be played beginning April 20th in Hutchinson, Kansas (Men's) and Lubbock, Texas (Women's).
