CHARLOTTE, N.C.- There is a new #1 in the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Rankings this week and that team resides in Fort Myers, Florida. The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers took back over at #1 in the polls this week following a win in their Citrus Conference opener over Hillsborough to improve to 12-1 on the year.
The Bucs move back into the top spot where they started the year after pushing their record to 12-1 on Saturday with a dominating 3-0 sweep of Hillsborough in Suncoast Credit Union Arena. The Bucs have wins over four Top 20 ranked opponents this season and six over teams currently in the Top 20.
The Bucs flip flopped spots with rival Miami Dade who drops a spot to #2 after a loss to Salt Lake over the weekend. Weatherford moves back to #3 while Odessa and Northeastern rise up to #4 and #5 after impressive tournament showings last week. Salt Lake and New Mexico Military both made jumps into the Top 10 while both Jayhawk Conference teams in the poll, Barton, and Colby, fell five spots to #8 and #12 respectively after dropping a pair of games each.
The Bucs will put their new #1 ranking on the line Wednesday when they make the long trip up I-75 to Gainesville to take on Santa Fe in Citrus Conference action beginning at 6 PM.
