TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- For the second time this season, Florida SouthWestern outside hitter Maria Petkova has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week as released by the state on Tuesday. Petkova finished the final week of the regular season averaging 4.50 kills and 3.17 digs per set in a pair of FSW wins over Polk State.
Petkova began the week with a 19 kill, 10 dig double-double on her sophomore night in Suncoast Arena, leading the Bucs to a 3-0 sweep of Polk State. Four days later she was at it again against the Eagles, this time finishing with 8 kills, 9 digs, and a team high 3 blocks as the Bucs wrapped up their second straight undefeated conference season with a 3-0 win.
Petkova's Player of the Week award is the 10th of the season for the Bucs, coming from six different players.
Petkova and the Bucs are currently the #1 ranked team in the country and head into the 2021 postseason as the #1 seed for the upcoming NJCAA Region VIII Tournament which will be held November 5-6 at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
