JACKSONVILLE, Fla- Destinie Gordon poured in 15 of her game high 23 points in the second half as the #12 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got in the win column for the first time in 2025-2026 with a 76-50 victory over USC Salkehatchie in Jacksonville Saturday.
It was a back and forth battle early on as the Bucs and Indians looked to gain their footing after both falling on Friday in their openers. A three from Kiara Harris and then a late bucket from Destinie Gordon gave the Bucs a 14-13 lead at the end of one.
The Bucs opened things up in the second, using an inside/out combo to start to pad their lead before eventually taking a 39-22 lead into the locker rooms at half.
The Bucs and Indians played even in the third, but with a big cushion heading into the period, FSW was fine with that as they took a 56-38 lead after three quarters of action.
Gordon took things over for the Bucs late as the sophomore forward had her way against the Indians on the inside, finishing in the paint and getting to the free throw line to build upon before finally salting the game away for FSW 76-50.
Gordon finished with 15 of her game high 23 points in the second half while Delfina Cergneaux and Harris joined her in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively.
FSW finishes opening weekend 1-1 while Salkehatchie heads back to South Carolina with an 0-2 mark in Jacksonville.
The Bucs are back in action next Saturday when they head across the state to take on Palm Beach State in a noon tip in Lake Worth.
