Jayla Murray Honored With NJCAA All-American Nod

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Florida SouthWestern State freshman Jayla Murray was bestowed the top honor in junior college basketball on Tuesday as the freshman forward was named a Third Team NJCAA All-American as announced by the NJCAA National Office. 

Murray adds to her impressive list of accolades during her rookie campaign which already included Southern Conference Player of the Year, FCSAA All-State, and Region VIII Tournament All-Tournament Team.  She led the Southern Conference Champion Bucs, averaging 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game on the season while upping that to 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds a night in conference action.  She scored in double figures 22 times on the season and reached the 20 point mark six times.  She had seven double-doubles on the year including four straight in Southern Conference play to help the Bucs secure their fifth straight league title.

Murray's selection as an All-American marks the fifth consecutive year a Buccaneer has received the honor, joining Patience Williams (2021), Za'Nautica Downs (2020), and Tina Stephens (2018 & 2019).

Murray was one of six FCSAA All-Americans this season joined by Northwest Florida's Last-Tear Poa (First Team), Eastern Florida's Rapuluchi Ngorka (First Team), Chipola's Jordan McLaughlin (Third Team) and Ta'Shonna Wright-Gaskins (Honorable Mention, as well as Gulf Coast State's Morgan Robinson (Honorable Mention).
