Murray Nets Bucs First Player of the Week Honor of 2022

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Powering the #20 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers with a pair of double-doubles in big Southern Conference wins last week, freshman Jayla Murray has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week, as announced by the state on Tuesday.

Murray was locked in in two big conference contests for FSW last week, averaging 24.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while shooting 63% from the field and 67% from the three point line.  Murray opened her big week with a 26 point, 10 rebound double-double for the Bucs in a key Southern Conference road win over Hillsborough. Murray went 10-15 from the field and nailed a pair of big three pointers to lead the Bucs to a victory. Saturday against Indian River, while the rest of the Bucs offense was struggling to find its way, Murray was locked in once again, outscoring the Pioneers herself in the first half in route to a 23 point, 15 rebound double-double to lead FSW to a win and put the Bucs in the driver's seat for their fifth straight conference title.

Murray is averaging 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game on the year, but has upped her game in conference play for the Bucs, putting up 18.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in league play.

She is the first FSW player to receive FCSAA Player of the Week honors in over two years with Za'Nautica Downs' mid-January award in 2020 the last for a Buc.

Murray and the Bucs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel across Alligator Alley to take on Miami Dade in Southern Conference action before stepping out of league play on Saturday when they travel to Gainesville to battle Santa Fe.
