FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Nairimar Vargas-Reyes made her four year commitment official on Wednesday, signing with up and coming America East power Stony Brook to play for the Seawolves for the next two seasons.  

 

Vargas-Reyes' career at FSW will be remembered by her grit and unwavering consistency.  As a sophomore, she played in all 31 games, starting 29 averaging 10.2 points and a team best 6.5 rebounds per game to earn Second Team All-Conference accolades for the second straight season. She scored in double figures 16 times on the year, including six straight games late in the season, while pouring in a season high 23 against #6 Chipola to close out 2019.  

 

In two seasons with the Bucs, Vargas-Reyes played in 63 games, starting 56, while averaging 9.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per contest.  She helped lead FSW to a pair of Suncoast Conference Championships and a 54-11 overall record while guiding the Bucs to their first two NJCAA National Tournament berths in program history. 

 

Vargas-Reyes will join a Stony Brook squad coming off of their best season in program history.  The Seawolves have steadily improved over the past three seasons under the direction of Head Coach Caroline McCombs, culminating this season in the program's first America East Regular Season Championship and a program best 28-3 overall record.  The Seawolves received votes towards the AP Top 25 for the first time and were well on their way to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history when the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  

 

Vargas-Reyes and the Seawolves will have high expectations again next year as she will join fellow Puerto Rican and 2020 All-Conference pick India Pagan as well as five other key contributors from this year's team on the floor in Long Island next season. 

 

Vargas-Reyes was one of three NCAA Division I signees for the Bucs on Wednesday, joining Za'Nautica Downs (UNC-Wilmington) and Simone Lett (South Alabama).
