  • 21 FSW Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA All-Academic Honors

    After posting the highest winning percentage in the Suncoast Conference on the court and in the field for the second straight season this year, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers showed their true STUDENT-Athlete prowess on Wednesday as a conference high 21 Bucs earned NJCAA All-Academic Team honors.

    All three Florida SouthWestern State women's athletics teams were honored by the NJCAA on Monday as the Bucs Volleyball, Softball, and Women's Basketball teams were named NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year by the organization.

    Florida SouthWestern outfielder Lexi Moore will go from one of the top NJCAA Softball programs to one of the top NCAA Division II programs next season, signing her National Letter of Intent to play for Rollins College in Winter Park on Monday.

    The State Championship rematch battle between #2 Central Florida and #3 Florida SouthWestern lived up to its billing at City of Palms Park in Downtown Fort Myers in late February.  Game one of the doubleheader came down to the final pitch, which is what brings us to our #1 moment on our list of the Top 10 Moments of the 2019-20 FSW Athletics Year, Lindsey Corbin’s walk off grand slam.

    Hitting home runs was commonplace for the Florida SouthWestern Softball team in 2020 as they blasted 32 longballs in just 25 games, but what Haley Ellefson did against Miami Dade on March 5th is something that may never be replicated.
  • NJCAA/FCSAA Approve Return to Play Plan For 2020-2021

    After a series of one after another bad news reports regarding COVID-19 ended their 2019-2020 athletics year in March, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got some good news on Thursday as the FCSAA Council of Presidents approved the NJCAA and the FCSAA AD’s plans to play the 2020-2021 seasons as planned, beginning in August. 
  • Bowers Named FSW's First Academic All-American

    For the first time in history Florida SouthWestern has an Academic All-American® as Softball player Owen Bowers was bestowed the honor on Monday by CoSIDA after posting a 4.00 GPA in the classroom and blasting 18 home runs and driving in 94 runs the past two years on the field. 
  • Florida SouthWestern Softball Team of the Decade- 2010s

    We wrap up our four part series today on the Florida SouthWestern State Teams of the Decade as we look at 10 of the best Buccaneers Softball talents of all-time.  Reemerging in 2016, the FSW Softball Team has been one of the elite programs in the country for the past five seasons.  The Bucs have won four straight Suncoast Conference Championships and a pair of State Championships, while making three trips to the NJCAA National Tournament.

  • Promising Season Cut Short For FSW Softball

    The Florida SouthWestern State Softball team was in the midst of another record breaking season in 2020 when it was abruptly ended due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The Buccaneers had built up a 23-2 overall record as they approached the midway point of the season while earning wins over both the defending National Champion Chipola Indians and the nation’s #2 ranked team in Central Florida. 
  • Bucs' International Student-Athletes Face Tough Decisions in Wake of COVID-19 Pandemic

    Of the 75 athletes that originate from outside of the United States between Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida Southwestern State College, a good amount are stuck in Fort Myers in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • NJCAA Cancels Remainder of 2020 Winter & Spring Sport Seasons

    After careful thought and consideration, the NJCAA has decided to cancel the rest of the 2020 Athletics season due to the rapidly changing situation concerning COVID-19. The cancellation effects the Florida SouthWestern State Men’s & Women’s Basketball teams as well as the Bucs’ Baseball and Softball squads. 
  • FCSAA Suspends All Competitions Through March 28th

    Due to the continued concern of COVID-19 the the FCSAA has suspended all competitions, effective immediately, through March 28th.   At that time, the organization's Council of Presidents will reaccess the situation and determine whether they feel competition between teams is safe once again.

    Tossing five innings and allowing just one hit last week, Florida SouthWestern State Softball pitcher Alyssa O’Donnell has been named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday.

    Two weeks ago, Florida SouthWestern State Softball star Haley Ellefson was named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week for her work in the circle for the Buccaneers.  Tuesday, the sophomore was given a different honor as she was named the state’s Player of the Week.

    If the week five NJCAA National Poll stays true, this year's FCSAA Tournament is going to be one for the ages as Monday, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Softball team found themselves ranked #3 for the fifth straight week in a poll that included five Sunshine State teams in the top seven.  
  • Bucs Offensive Assault Continues Against Lincoln Trail

    If you are an opposing pitcher and you see the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers on your upcoming schedule, you might want to schedule a sick day.  The Bucs offensive assault continued on Thursday as they put together two more run rule victories with 13-1 and 10-2 wins over Lincoln Trail to improve to 23-2 on the year. 
  • Ellefson's Career Day Leads Bucs Past Sharks

    Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Haley Ellefson did it all for the 3rd ranked Buccaneer Softball squad on Wednesday against Miami Dade, finishing a perfect 4-4 at the plate with three home runs and 10 RBIs in the doubleheader while also pitching the Bucs to a game one win as FSW swept past the Sharks 13-5 and 11-2 in a pair of run rule victories to improve to 21-2 on the year.  
  • All Smiles For Bucs in Sweep of Kalamazoo

    Three days after grinding through a doubleheader split with #2 Central Florida, the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Softball team got a chance to let their hair down a little bit on Tuesday, sweeping past the visiting Kalamazoo Valley Cougars by scores of 5-1 and 16-0 to improve to 19-2 on the year.

    A split with #2 Central Florida Friday in a battle of NJCAA titans was good enough to keep the Florida SouthWestern State Softball team at #3 in the NJCAA National Polls released on Monday.  
  • Corbin's Walk Off Grand Slam Highlights Bucs Split with Central Florida in Top Five Battle

    In a rematch of the 2019 FCSAA State Championship game, the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers battled the #2 Central Florida Patriots Friday afternoon at City of Palms Park in Downtown Fort Myers.  The doubleheader lived up to its billing as a back and forth affair in game one ended with a walk off grand slam from FSW's Lindsey Corbin for a 12-8 win, while game two featured a pair of multi home run games, one for each side, before Central Florida hung on for a 7-5 win to split the twinbill.  
  • Bucs/Silver Storm Postponed Due to Rain

    The first measurable rainfall in three weeks in Southwest Florida came on the wrong day as the Florida SouthWestern State Softball team was forced to postpone their scheduled doubleheader with ASA Miami Wednesday due to wet playing conditions and future forecasts for more precipitation in the area later in the day. The 3rd ranked Bucs will return to the field on Friday in a huge non-conference doubleheader against #3 Central Florida at 2 PM at City of Palms Park in a rematch of last season’s FCSAA State Championship game.

    Following a dominating week at the plate, Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Natavia Ellis has been named the NJCAA National Player of the Week.
  • Ellis Named FCSAA Player of the Week

    Ellis had a monster week for the Bucs, hitting .714 with two home runs, 16 RBIs and nine runs scored in the middle of the FSW order.  She had hits in all seven games she saw action in and drove in runs in six of the seven. Her best game of the week came against Ave Maria when she went 3-3 with a single, a double, a home run, and 6 RBIs to lead the Bucs to a run rule win.  She wrapped up the week by going 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Bucs knocked off #5 Chipola in a rematch of the 2019 District H Championship game.  On the season Ellis is hitting .583 with four home runs and 29 RBIs.
  • Ellefson Named FCSAA Pitcher of the Week

    Ellefson was nearly perfect for the Bucs last week, going 4-0 without allowing a single earned run in 14 1/3 innings pitched.  She yielded just seven hits while striking out 20 on the week.  Thursday against Ave Maria she struck out seven in three innings of work while Sunday she went 3 1/3 hitless frames to beat Tallahassee. On the season Ellefson is 8-1 with a 0.72 ERA in 38 2/3 innings pitched.

    The Florida SouthWestern State Softball held steady in the NJCAA National Poll this week, checking in at #3 for the third straight week with their 16-1 record to start the 2020 season.  
  • Bucs Down Tallahassee, Knock Off Defending Champs Chipola in Sanford

    The #3 Florida SouthWestern State Softball team earned two more solid regular season wins on Sunday, first putting it on Tallahassee 12-4 before upending the defending National Champion Chipola Indians 8-4 to wrap up a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Courtney Miller Invitational in Sanford.
  • #3 FSW Breezes Past Region 8 Foes

    Playing in the place they hope to be come May at the FCSAA State Tournament in Sanford, the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers continued a dominant stretch on Saturday, first blanking Santa Fe 8-0 in a run rule before taking it to Florida State College at Jacksonville 8-1 to pick up their 10th straight win. 
  • Bucs Bomb Gyrenes in Naples

    If you are a pitcher and value your ERA, you probably want to steer clear of the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers right now. The Buccaneers put on another show Thursday night in Naples, putting up 31 runs in a 18-1, 13-0 doubleheader sweep of Ave Maria. FSW has now outscored their last seven opponents by a count of 92-5.
