FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers began their 2025-2026 season with a bang Tuesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, hammering the visiting Prestige Worldwide Barracudas 96-54 behind five different players who scored in double figures in the win.
It was all Bucs from the start as they jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead just 2:30 into the contest and held that lead to the midway mark of the first half when Mason Blazer picked off a pass and threw down a two handed slam to make it 21-14. The Bucs began to stretch things out from there, going on a 9-0 run over the next 3:12 to blow their lead open to 30-14 as the clock ticked under 7:30 to go in the half. FSW played above the rim for the final 7:00 of the period as Abdoulaye Konate found Jeremy Innocent for an alley oop and Stephen Okoro and Konate himself flew to the rim for slams to give the Bucs a 41-22 lead into the break at half.
The Bucs continued to put it on the Barracudas in the second as a three from Blazer and an offensive rebound and putback from Roman Cummings made it 58-26 seven minutes into the half. Saad Chaudhry nailed a three and Kenyon Giles slashed through the lane for an easy two to bump the lead to 67-30 at the midway mark of the second. Blazer scored six straight for the Bucs to extend their lead to 82-39 before Sean Gomez scored his first collegiate points to put a bow on it for the Bucs late as FSW finished off a 96-54 win in their 2025-2026 opener.
The Bucs executed at a 57% clip in the win while holding Prestige to just 35% shooting on the night. Five different players scored in double figures for FSW including Roman Cummings and Stephen Okoro who both notched double doubles with 12 points and 12 rebounds and 13 points and 10 rebounds respectively in the victory. Blazer led the Bucs with 16 points on 6-11 shooting in his FSW debut while Konate scored 15 in just 18 minutes off the Bucs bench.
The Bucs will return to action November 13th when they travel to central Texas to take on Ranger and Weatherford in the Ranger Classic.
