Injury Bug Bites Former Bucs in Second Alumni Update

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Former Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers continue to play prominent roles in their teams' successes at the next level, but a few Bucs got some tough injury news as we take a look at our second installment of 'Where Are they Now'.

2018-2019 BUCS

Charles Manning Jr.- Louisiana State University

Manning Jr. has LSU off to a 4-0 start to SEC, playing a major factor in three of the four games, including nailbiting wins over Arkansas and Mississippi State.  Against Arkansas, he came up with a huge blocked shot on the final possession of the game, securing a 79-77 win for the Tigers.  Three days later, he was at it again, scoring 15, including a go ahead three pointer in the closing minute of the game to bring LSU from behind for a 60-59 win over Mississippi State.  But all is not all good for the former Bucs' All-American as Wednesday he fractured his foot and will miss 3-4 weeks before making his return hopefully in mid-February.

Maddox Daniels- University of Colorado

Daniels has helped the Buffs to a #20 ranking in the latest AP poll as Colorado is off to a 13-3 start to the year.  Daniels hit a key three pointer to help the Buffs past #4 Oregon to kick off Pac-12 play and had 8 points on 3-4 shooting in Colorado's last victory against Utah.

Destin Barnes- Jacksonville University

Barnes has stepped right into a lead role with Jacksonville this season, sitting second on the team averaging 10.7 points per game for the Dolphins. He exploded on Friday against NJIT, scoring a career high 25 on 10-14 shooting, leading JU to their first ASUN win of the year.

DeShawn Thomas- Louisiana State University

Thomas will redshirt during the 2019-2020 season and look to get things going again next season.

Tyler Morman- University of Wyoming

Morman had just returned to action after missing the first 15 games of the season due to concussion, when another concussion in his first start of the year against Denver, knocked him out for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season.

Fernando Lopez- Point Park University

Like Thomas, Lopez will sit out the 2019-2020 season as a redshirt and return for his junior season with two to play at Point Park next season.

2017-2018 BUCS

Tyler Cheese- University of Arkron

Cheese and the Zips have won 10 of their past 11 games and are 4-0 in MAC  play after a win over Northern Illinois on Tuesday.  Jumping into the starting lineup of late, Cheese is Akron's second leading scorer at 15.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in six straight games including a 25 point effort against Western Michigan and 23 against Northern Illinois.

Tra'Von Fagan- University of Buffalo

Fagan continues to rehab from a knee injury that has cost him the first 17 games of the year thus far.  He is nearing his return and may make his season debut for the Bulls Saturday against Central Michigan.

Anthony Murphy- Drake University

Murphy has started all 17 games this season for the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Champs, averaging 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.  He has scored in double figures 10 times for the Bulldogs this season and has crashed the boards of late as well, ripping down 15 rebounds in Drake's past two games.

Tremell Murphy- Drake University

The injury bug found its way to Iowa this season as well, taking out the other half of the Murphy twin combo.  After seeing action in just five games, Murphy underwent season ending knee surgery last week and will file for a medical redshirt to try and get his season of eligibility back.

DJ Wilkins- Drake University

With Wilkins starting all 17 games this season for Drake, no less than 40% of the Bulldogs starting lineups have been former Bucs in 2019-2020.  Wilkins sits right under Murphy at 9.7 points per game and has topped the 10 point mark nine times this season.  He had a big game two weeks ago in a win against Indiana State, scoring 16 points and dropping 5 assists in a four point Drake victory.

ShanQuan Hemphill- University of Wisconsin Green Bay

Injured in the first half of Green Bay's opener against Purdue, Hemphill will likely seek a medical redshirt and return to the floor next season.

Jermar Perkins Jr.- Keiser University

Perkins has played his sixth man role perfectly this season for Keiser, averaging 11.1 points in 19.1 minutes per game off the Seahawks bench.  He has helped Keiser to a top 15 national ranking, scoring in double figures 10 times this season, including in the 'Hawks past two games against Ave Maria and Southeastern.

2016-2017 BUCS

Ed Porter- Lehigh University

Porter has seen action in 16 games for the Mountain Hawks this season averaging just over 2 points and 2 rebounds per contest.  His minutes have increased of late, as he has logged 36 minutes in Lehigh's past three games.

This years' Bucs are 20-1 on the year and ranked 2nd nationally.  FSW is coming off of a dominating 96-69 win over Suncoast Conference rival State College of Florida on Wednesday.  They will wrap up the first half of conference play on Saturday when they travel to Polk State for a matinee affair.  They return home on Saturday, January 25th where they will take on Hillsborough in a 2 PM tipoff.
