Bucs Southpaw Signs at St. Thomas

FORT MYERS, Fla.- After one successful season with his hometown Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers, lefty Chase Chatman is headed to NAIA power St. Thomas University in Miami to pitch for the Bobcats next season.  

Chatman pitched in 12 games for the Suncoast Conference Champion Bucs this season, making 11 starts and going 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA.  He was a 2nd Team All-Conference pick, dialing up 53 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings pitched.  Chatman made a number of big starts for the Bucs as a sophomore, twice going 7 innings in wins against St. Petersburg and also throwing six shutout innings against Polk State in a 10-2 win in late March.  

He will join a Bobcat program that finished the 2022 season ranked #12 in the NAIA National Rankings.  St. Thomas was 41- 19 overall and 14-10 in the always difficult Sun Conference.  

Chatman is the 15th four year signee overall for the Bucs this season, joining Magnus Ellerts (Florida), Ben Peterson (North Carolina), Jose Izarra (Dallas Baptist), Hunter Fitz-Gerald (Old Dominion), Grant Besser (Rutgers), Riley Skeen (South Florida), Matthew Corpas (Florida International), Nicholas Regalado (FGCU), Paxton Tomaini (Dayton) Ronny Medina (Radford), Frank Elissalt & Ronaldo Fernandez (Nova Southeastern), Ben Petschke (Samford), and Kalvin Alexander (Georgia Southwestern).
