Koehler Earns First FCSAA Player of the Week Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Leading the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers to a perfect 4-0 run at the Battle at the Beach Tournament last weekend, Bucs sophomore Barbara Koehler has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week as announced by the state office Tuesday.

Koehler's right arm needed ice down on Sunday after the Bucs outside hitter hammered down 52 kills in four FSW wins.  In the Bucs 2022 opener, she put together a monster performance against Trinity Valley, finishing off 20 kills and pulling up 17 digs in her sixth career double-double. Later that night she narrowly missed another double-double, finishing with 9 kills, 10 digs, and 3 blocks in a 3-0 sweep of #14 Utah State-Eastern.  Saturday she helped the Bucs to a pair of wins over Top 10 ranked opponents, leading the way with 11 kills in a sweep of #9 Central Wyoming before dialing  up 12 kills on just 18 swings in a dominating FSW performance against #1 Iowa Western.  On the week the Brazil native averaged 4.0 kills and 3.0 digs per set while hitting .282 on the pin.

Koehler wasn't the only FSW player honored by the FCSAA Tuesday as setter Roberta Purashaj was also named the state's Setter of the Week.

Koehler and the Bucs return to the floor September 6th when they open Suncoast Conference play on the road at #10 Polk State.
