FSW Volleyball Set to Play First Home Match in Program History Monday

FORT MYERS, Fla.- For the first time in program history, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers will take the court at home on Monday as they host the Ave Maria Gyrenes in exhibition action beginning at 6 pm.  Activities will begin in the arena at 3 pm when the FSW Foundation unveils the new court in Suncoast Credit Union Arena and after the match, the Bucs will hold a meet and greet where fans can get posters signed and get to know FSW's first Volleyball team.  Admission to the match is free to all fans.

Expectedly, FSW sends a young team to the court this season with 13 freshmen on their 15 player roster.  The Bucs are comprised of players from all around the world, encompassing six countries and four different continents. Standing out for the Bucs in preseason action so far has been outsides Lexi Hurtado, who leads the team at 4.50 kills per set and Anna Leweling who has registered 2.25 kills per set in FSW's three scrimmages.

Ave Maria is coming off of a 7-15 campaign from a season ago, going 4-12 in Sun Conference action.  The Gyrenes return two of their top offensive threats from last season in senior Jenna Barnak and sophomore Katie O'Donnell.  In 2018 the two combined for nearly 4 kills per set while playing together in 21 of 22 matches.
