On This Date In FSW Athletics History: Bucs Clinch Program's First Victory

Tampa, Fla.- We turn the clock back four years today in our 'On This Date in FSW Athletics History' series, where we take another look at the FSW Women's Basketball program who claimed their first win in program history on the road at Hillsborough.

The Bucs hit the road to Tampa for their first game in program history, making the trip North to take on Hillsborough.  There were few jitters for the young Bucs as their run and gun style lit up the scoreboard for 29 first quarter points and a three point lead after 10 minutes of action.  A 16-5 run for FSW to begin the second opened things up and they went to the half leading 49-37.

FSW put the game away early in the third quarter thanks in large part to a 20-5 run to take their largest lead of the game at 27 and cruised to the finish line to win it 85-75 over the Hawks.

Kiara Meeks and Erna Normil led the FSW charge, combining for 34 points and 10 assists on the night.  LaToya Ashman recorded the first field goal, three pointer, and points in FSW history while Normil had the first assist and steal and Taylor Gotcher secured the Bucs first rebound in game action.

The Bucs would finish their inaugural season 20-11 overall and 9-3 in Southern Conference play.  They won 10 of their final 11 games of the regular season to qualify for the FCSAA State Tournament where they would see their season come to an end at the hands of 5th ranked Chipola.
