Stephens Named Region VIII Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.- Following a pair of double-doubles last week, Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Tina Stephens has been named the NJCAA Region VIII Player of the Week, the Buccaneers first selection for the award this season.

Wednesday against Eastern Florida State, Stephens scored a school record 35 points on just 15 field goal attempts, while notching her fourth double-double of the season by grabbing 12 rebounds as well.  The win over the Titans locked up the Bucs second straight Suncoast Conference Championship.  Saturday she was at it again, posting her second straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a road victory at St. Petersburg.  On the week Stephens averaged 26.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while leading the Bucs to their 20th and 21st straight victories.

The award marks Stephens' fourth career Player of the Week award and her first this season.

FSW is now 25-2 on the year and sits at #13 in the NJCAA National Rankings.  The Bucs will be back in action on Wednesday at home in Suncoast Credit Union Arena when they host Hillsborough at 5:30 PM.
