Lucky 13, Bucs Rise Four Spots in NJCAA Top 25

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Riding a 13 game winning streak, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers continued to push their way up the NJCAA Top 25, moving up four spots to #13 as announced by the national office Tuesday afternoon.

FSW improved to 17-2 on Saturday with an 89-55 win over St. Petersburg on the road.  The Bucs 17 wins are tied for second most victories in the entire NJCAA Division I ranks behind defending National Champion Tallahassee who has 18.  FSW's 14 wins over NJCAA Division I competition also ranks in the top five nationally.

After a few weeks of nearly no change in the top 20, there was a lot of movement in the first poll of 2019.  Northwest Florida and Trinity Valley remained 1-2, but Tallahassee and Chipola both dropped games over the break allowing New Mexico, Hutchinson, and South Plains to claim the final three spots in the top five this week.

Region VIII holds six of the top 25 spots, with #1 Northwest Florida, #7 Gulf Coast, #8 Tallahassee, #10 Chipola, #13 FSW, and #21 Pensacola.  No other region has more than four teams represented.

The Bucs are back in action on Wednesday at home in Suncoast Credit Union Arena when they host Hillsborough in their Suncoast Conference home opener at 5:30 pm.  They wrap up a mini two-game homestand with a 2:00 matinee affair with Trinity College of Florida on Saturday on first responders night in the arena.
