FSW Stretches Win Streak to Nine to Close Out First Half

LAKE WORTH, FLA.- The #17 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers rolled to their eighth and ninth straight wins over the weekend, blowing out Indian River State and Palm Beach State to improve to 13-2 on the year as they close out the first half of action for 2018-19.

Saturday the Bucs traveled to Lake Worth to take on Indian River State in a matinee affair. 

FSW raced out to an early lead and never looked back against the Pioneers, having little trouble in a 102-63 win. 

Five players scored in double figures for the Bucs including Simone Lett who finished with 17 points and 8 rebounds off the bench and Cherelle Washington who added 16 on 7 of 11 shooting also off the FSW bench. 

The Bucs shot 57% from the field in the win, while outrebounding the Pioneers 53-20 on the afternoon.

FSW got off to another good start on Sunday, putting up 43 points in the first half to take a nine point lead at the break against Palm Beach State.  The Bucs opened the second half on fire as well, putting the game away by outscoring the Panthers 23-11 before finishing off an 81-59 victory. 

Tina Stephens led the Bucs with 21 points while Kiara Felder had 16 on 6 of 8 shooting and Shondell Vickers added 13 off the FSW bench. 

For the second straight game, the Bucs shot North of 50% as they finished 32 of 62, good for 52% on the night while again outrebounding their opponents by double digits, this time 38-25 against the Panthers.

FSW stretches their win streak to nine with the victories, improving to 13-2 overall on the year. 

The Bucs will return home after the break where they will take on Florida State College at Jacksonville and Santa Fe December 28-29 at home in Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

SUNCOAST CREDIT UNION ARENA
The Buccaneers compete in the brand new Suncoast Credit Union Arena. Suncoast Credit Union Arena is approximately 75,000 square feet and is home to the FSW basketball teams and a student athletic center. The arena seats approximately 3,300 fans and includes six skyboxes, a hospitality event center, competition courts that convert into recreational courts, athletic office space, student, faculty and staff wellness, and an athletic center with a fitness pavilion, men's and women's locker rooms and a weight training area. The arena has two Daktronics displays, on the north and south walls, that each measure 10 feet high by 20 feet wide. Both displays incorporate variable content zoning to each show one large image or they can be divided into multiple windows to show any variety of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages. One-hundred feet of ribbon displays have been installed on the east and west walls of the arena. The ribbons provide the opportunity to supplement the content on the main displays as well as highlight sponsors throughout events.
