Former FSW All-American Gettins Joins Texas Softball Staff
AUSTIN, Texas- The top pitcher in Florida SouthWestern State history, Courtney Gettins, is headed to the Lone Star State, as the 2016 NJCAA National Pitcher of the Year has been hired to join the staff at the University of Texas.

Gettins, who is FSW's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched and a member of the Bucs' All-Decade Team, starred on FSW's inaugural team in 2016, leading the Bucs to a National Tournament appearance in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.  She twirled 68 complete games in her career with the Bucs, nearly 40 more than any other player in program history, while dialing up 21 career shutouts which is also far and away a program record.

Upon her graduation from FSW, Gettins went on to star at SEC power Alabama where she helped the Crimson Tide to a Super Regional appearance as a junior when she went 14-5 in the circle and the College World Series as a senior when she pitched in 17 games for 'Bama.

Gettins is also an experienced international player, suiting up for her home country of New Zealand where she helped the Kiwis to a pair of U-19 Championships and a bid in the Olympic qualifiers.

She began her coaching career last season when the was the Graduate Assistant at Jacksonville University.

At Texas, she joins a staff with a familiar face in former FSW Assistant Baseball Coach Steve Singleton.  The Longhorns actually lost to Gettins' Alabama squad in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional in their last complete season in 2019.  They were off to a red hot start to their 2020 season at 24-3 and were the top ranked team in the country by some publications before Covid-19 brought it to an abrupt end.

The FSW Softball team will be back at it this Fall before returning to the diamond to play for keeps in late January of 2021.
