Collins Named Region VIII Pitcher of the Week

For the second time this season, Florida SouthWestern State ace Kelsi Collins has been named the FCSAA/Region VIII Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league Tuesday.

Collins pitched in two games for the Buccaneers last week, going 2-0 without allowing a run against Palm Beach and #8 Indian River.  She worked 10 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out 16.  Thursday against Palm Beach, she went three innings, striking out 7 of the 11 batters she faced in a 15-0 FSW win.  Sunday against the 8th ranked Pioneers she went the distance in a 4-0 Buc victory, allowing just two hits and fanning nine.

Collins has dominated through nine appearances this season, going 8-0 with a 0.48 ERA.  Opponents are hitting just .149 against her while she has struck out 67 in 43 2/3 innings of work.  Her eight wins are tops in the state while her 0.48 ERA ranks second to teammate Sarah Lawton and her 67 punchouts are also second best.

Collins and the Bucs will take the field again on Friday when they travel to Ocala to take on #6 Central Florida in a doubleheader.
