REGION 8/FCSAA SOFTBALL AWARDS LIST

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida SouthWestern State College softball team saw 11 student-athletes receive postseason accolades, highlighted by sophomore Courtney Gettins and head coach Robert Iamurri earning superlative awards. Gettins earned FCSAA/Region 8 and Suncoast Conference Pitcher of the Year, while Iamurri was named Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year.

FSW was represented on the Suncoast Conference’s First Team by Courtney Gettins, Giovanna Watts, Molly Roark, Marta Fuentes, Mikayla Werahiko, Christian Quinn and Criza Bulanadi. The Purple and Aqua garnered a pair of Second Team selections as Mikenzie Vaughn and Riley Russell received postseason accolades. Kayla Rangiawha and Taylor Collins were named Suncoast Conference Honorable Mention.

Along with Suncoast Conference awards, fiveBuccaneer student-athletes earned All-State selections. Gettins, Roark and Fuentes picked up First Team nods, while Quinn and Watts were selected to the Second Team.

The Purple and Aqua (56-5), ranked No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Division I Softball National Top 20 rankings, are 27-4 this season against the state tournament field. The Bucs secured their second consecutive Suncoast Conference Championship with an 18-2 mark in conference play. The Bucs also won 45 of their last 47 games to close the regular season.

The Bucs, who finished the 2016 season with 274 stolen bases and led the nation at every level (NCAA DI, NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, NJCAA, NAIA), have 241 stolen bases to rank second in the country behind Chipola (312). The Buccaneers lead the NJCAA in wins (56) and shutouts (26), but they also rank in the top 20 nationally in multiple categories, including opponent batting average (2nd; .182), hits (3rd; 650), ERA (8th; 1.24), triples (14th; 19), walks (14th; 170), runs (17th; 422) and total bases (19th; 824).
