Murphy enters his sixth season as Head Coach and seventh overall with the Bucs in 2023-2024.

Murphy continued his trend of sending players on to the Division I level last season as seven Bucs inked with Division I programs including Jadrian Tracey who signed with the University of Oregon in the Pac-12. In just five seasons as Head Coach of the Bucs, Murphy has now sent 30 players to the NCAA's highest level.  

Murphy also put another feather in his cap when on March 20th, Keon Ellis became the first FSW player to see action in an NBA game when he suited up for the Sacramento Kings against the Utah Jazz.  

Murphy led the Bucs to their third straight undefeated Suncoast Conference Championship in 2019-2020, posting a 29-2 overall record and holding down the #1 spot in the NJCAA National Polls for the final five weeks of the year.  Murphy's Bucs secured their third straight bid to the NJCAA National Tournament before it was cancelled due to Covid-19. He was once again named the Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year, his second in as many seasons.  He developed a program record eight All-Conference selections including Suncoast Player of the Year and Second Team NJCAA All-American Keon Ellis.  Maybe the most impressive of all 2019-2020 number however was that eight FSW players signed at the NCAA Division I level at season's end including Ellis to Alabama, giving the Bucs four Power Five players in Murphy's first two seasons at the helm.  

His first season as the Head Coach for the Bucs was a memorable one as FSW went 30-3 overall, 12-0 in Suncoast Conference play, and to their second straight NJCAA National Tournament.  Murphy was named the Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year, leading the Bucs to a 28-1 regular season record in 2018-19.  After receiving a first round bye at the National Tournament, the Bucs went 1-1 with a win over Indian Hills and a one point overtime loss to Coffeyville to finish 5th.  The Bucs three losses on the season came by a total of five points, all to top 10 ranked teams.  Along with Murphy himself being honored by the league, seven Bucs were named to the Suncoast All-Conference squads.  Charles Manning Jr. was named the Conference Player of the Year, a First Team All-State selection, and a Third Team NJCAA All-American.  Six FSW sophomores signed to play at the next level including five at the Division I level and three to Power Five schools.  

As an assistant for the Bucs (2016-2018), Murphy helped lead the Bucs to a 56-10 overall record. He helped FSW earn the program's first Suncoast Conference championship (12-0 conference record) in 2017-18 and also helped the Buccaneers secure their second consecutive berth to the NJCAA District VIII Championship.

Murphy came to Florida SouthWestern after spending three seasons as a member of the Northern Colorado men's basketball staff. He served as the director of operations for one season (2013-14), before spending two seasons as an assistant coach (2014-16).

Prior to his stint at Northern Colorado, Murphy spent two seasons as the assistant and interim head coach at Wabash Valley College. He was the interim head coach at Wabash Valley for 11 games between Dec. 2012 and Jan. 2013.

While at Wabash Valley, he helped lead the team to an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament in 2012 after they won the Region 24 Championship.

He spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Slippery Rock from 2007-09 and coached the following two years at Vincennes University as an assistant coach before moving to Wabash Valley.

At all of his previous institutions, Murphy has been extremely involved in the recruiting of student-athletes and coordination of practice, scouting and game plans. He also has experience on the operational side of the game and in community and alumni relations, travel coordination, meals and housing and several other off the court activities.

Murphy played collegiately at Pennsylvania State-Beaver, Mercyhurst College and Waynesburg before beginning his coaching career. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Waynesburg in 2002 and completed his master's degree in physical education from Slippery Rock in 2010.

Murphy and his wife Sara reside in Fort Myers with their daughter Makari and son Zaiden.
