Former FSW Players Making an Impact Around the Country

FORT MYERS, Fla.- From the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to the Bayou of Louisiana and everywhere in between, there are former Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers making an impact at the next level of college basketball this season.  Tonight we take a look at our first installment of 'Where Are they Now'.

2018-2019 BUCS

Charles Manning Jr.- Louisiana State University

An All-American for the Bucs last season, Manning Jr. has picked up for LSU where he left off for FSW, being a major contributor for one of the top teams in the country.  Manning Jr. has helped the Tigers to a 7-4 start to the season which included a stay in the NCAA Division I Top 25.  He has put up 8.2 points per game, shooting 48% from the field, while also coming up big on the defensive end with a team leading 14 blocks through 11 contests.

Maddox Daniels- University of Colorado

Like Manning, Daniels has been a key cog on a Top 25 ranked team this season for Colorado.  The Buffaloes are 10-2 and are coming off of an upset win on the road against #13 Dayton on Saturday.  Daniels has played in all 12 games for the Buffs, averaging 2.6 points per game as he continues to try to find his three point stroke in the rare air of Boulder.

Destin Barnes- Jacksonville University

Barnes has been excellent early on for Jacksonville this season, starting all 14 games for the Dolphins and averaging 11.2 points per game which ranks second on the team.  He has had some big games for the 'Phins, topping the 15 point mark five times including a 17 point first half outburst last Wednesday against Presbyterian. Earlier this month, Barnes was rewarded for his efforts as he was named the ASUN Newcomer of the Week.

DeShawn Thomas- Louisiana State University

Thomas has yet to see action with teammate Charles Manning Jr. and the Tigers this season. He will look to get healthy and on track as the second half kicks off for LSU on December 29th when they take on ASUN frontrunner Liberty in Baton Rouge.

Tyler Morman- University of Wyoming

Morman was sidelined due to a concussion for the Cowboys first nine games of the season but has been thrust back into action after being cleared last week. After getting his feet wet against Utah Valley, he drew a start and played 20 minutes for the Pokes in their victory over Denver on Saturday.

Fernando Lopez- Point Park University

Lopez is still looking for his first action with the Pioneers this season. Point Park is 7-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play and will resume their schedule on January 4th when they take on Penn State- New Kensington to begin 2020.

2017-2018 BUCS

Tyler Cheese- University of Arkron

Cheese has the Zips off to a 9-3 start to the year, playing in all 12 games and averaging 27.1 minutes of action per night thus far.  He ranks in the top four on the team in a number of categories including points (14.1), rebounds (4.2), assists (3.1), and blocks (1.0). He has topped the 20 point mark four times this season including in late November when he did so against then #2 Louisville on the road.

Tra'Von Fagan- University of Buffalo

After offseason knee surgery, Fagan has been unable to take the court yet this season.  He has recently been cleared to practice for the 8-4 Bulls and will hope to make his season debut when Buffalo opens MAC action on January 4th against Northern Illinois.

Anthony Murphy- Drake University

One of three former Bucs on the Bulldogs roster this season, Murphy has started all 13 games this season for Drake.  He is averaging 10.2 points per game for the Bulldogs, putting up a season high 17 in his return to Fort Myers as Drake took down Northeastern in the Gulf Coast Showcase at Hertz Arena.

Tremell Murphy- Drake University

The other half of the Murphy duo, Tremell has seen action and started five games for the Bulldogs this season, missing the other eight book end games of Drake's schedule. He is averaging 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, like his brother, scoring a season best 11 in his homecoming to Fort Myers against Murray State in the Gulf Coast Showcase.

DJ Wilkins- Drake University

Wilkins has been the glue for the defending Missouri Valley Champions this season, starting all 13 games and playing a team high 28.8 minutes per game alongside the Murphy twins for the Bulldogs. He is averaging just 10 points per game for Drake while shooting 40% from the field and 36% from deep. He went off in the Bulldogs season opener, pouring in a season high 19 points and also dishing out a season's best 4 assists in a win over Kennesaw State.

ShanQuan Hemphill- University of Wisconsin Green Bay

Poised for another big year for the Phoenix after starting 38 games for the CIT runners-up a season ago, Hemphill's 2019-2020 campaign got off to a nightmare start as he was injured in the first half of Green Bay's opener against Purdue.  He will likely seek a medical redshirt and return to the floor next season.

Jermar Perkins Jr.- Keiser University

Perkins is third on the team, averaging 11.2 points per game for the Top 25 ranked Seahawks.  He has been Keiser's top weapon off the bench this season, playing in 13 games, averaging 19.2 minutes per contest.  Perkins has scored in double figures eight times this season and rained in a season's best 26 against Voorhees early in the year.

2016-2017 BUCS

Ed Porter- Lehigh University

Porter has played in all 11 games for the Mountain Hawks this season, drawing one start and playing 10.6 minutes per night. The 6'7 forward played his best game of the year in a win over Cairn where he played a season high 20 minutes, scoring 6 points and grabbing 9 boards for Lehigh.

The 2019-2020 edition of the Bucs are currently ranked 3rd in the country with a 14-1 record at the midway point of the season. They will take the floor again on Saturday, December 28th when they host Oakton at 7 PM in Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
