FSW Rises to #2 in NJCAA Poll

FSW Rises to #2 in NJCAA Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers matched their highest ranking in program history on Tuesday, rising up one spot to #2 in the NJCAA Top 25 poll, equaling the 2017-18 squads final resting place in the rankings.

FSW is 18-1 on the year with their only loss of the season coming in a four point grinder against #6 Northwest Florida in early December.  The Bucs have won seven straight since then, putting the clamps on teams defensively during the stretch, allowing just 65 points per game.  FSW's resume is an impressive one thus far, including wins over then #5 and #8 Eastern Florida and Salt Lake on back to back nights, as well as a win over Indian River State who was receiving votes in the poll when the Bucs beat them.

This week's top 10 saw major shuffling, without a single team holding their place from seven days ago. South Plains takes back over at #1 after Vincennes loss to Olney Central.  The Bucs slide up to #2 with John A Logan making their way to #3 in front of Vincennes and Coffeyville.

The Bucs lead a list of four Region VIII teams in the poll this week, each of whom rest inside the top 12.  Northwest Florida is at #6, Chipola at #10, and Tallahassee at #12, all members of Florida's Panhandle Conference.

FSW will put their #2 ranking on the line Wednesday when they make the trip to Bradenton to take on State College of Florida in Suncoast Conference action.  They return home to Suncoast Credit Union Arena on Saturday to battle Polk State in a 4:00 tip with first place in the league on the line.

SUNCOAST CREDIT UNION ARENA
The Buccaneers compete in the brand new Suncoast Credit Union Arena. Suncoast Credit Union Arena is approximately 75,000 square feet and is home to the FSW basketball teams and a student athletic center. The arena seats approximately 3,300 fans and includes six skyboxes, a hospitality event center, competition courts that convert into recreational courts, athletic office space, student, faculty and staff wellness, and an athletic center with a fitness pavilion, men's and women's locker rooms and a weight training area. The arena has two Daktronics displays, on the north and south walls, that each measure 10 feet high by 20 feet wide. Both displays incorporate variable content zoning to each show one large image or they can be divided into multiple windows to show any variety of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages. One-hundred feet of ribbon displays have been installed on the east and west walls of the arena. The ribbons provide the opportunity to supplement the content on the main displays as well as highlight sponsors throughout events.
