Davis Taken in 11th Round of MLB Draft by Washington Nationals

DENVER, Colo.- The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were the first program in the NJCAA to have three players selected in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft as righthander Marc Davis had his named called by the Washington Nationals in the 11th round on Tuesday.

Davis pitched in 17 games for the Bucs this season, going 4-1 with a pair of saves.  He logged 35 innings on the year, posting a 3.34 ERA while striking out 64 opposing hitters at a rate of 16.46 per nine innings pitched which led the FSW staff.  Davis recorded 61% of his outs this season via the strikeout including a stretch in late March in which he recorded 20 strikeouts in 21 outs (95%) in just seven innings pitched.

Davis wrapped up his FSW career this season with 44 games pitched and 139 strikeouts, both of which are second most in program history while his 3.14 career ERA ranks seventh.

Tuesday marks the second time Davis has been drafted during his FSW career after he was selected in the 38th round of the 2019 draft by the Chicago Cubs before electing to return to the Bucs for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

With Davis' selection by the Nationals, FSW was the first NJCAA program with three draft picks in the 2021 event with Carlos Rodriguez (6th- Brewers), and Alex Ayala (9th- Rays) going on day two.  Davis, Rodriguez, and Ayala were also the first three FCSAA players taken in the draft, closely followed by  Andrew Baker (Chipola) and Shawn Guilliams (Central Florida) later in the 11th round.
