Three Bucs Named to Perfect Game's Top 100 Freshmen List

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Perfect Game released its Top 100 Incoming Juco Freshmen list on Monday and the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were well represented.  Three Bucs cracked the top 51 on the list as Matthew Corpas was the top ranked FSW player at #34, Erick Figueroa checked in just behind him at #39 and Daniel Maldonado at #51.

Corpas, a 5'10, 170 pound infielder from Miami led the FSW trio on the list at #34.  Bucs' Head Coach Ben Bizier said of him "Matt is just a grinder who always plays hard.  He is one of those guys that you know is going to show up when the lights turn on.  His versatility allows us to move him around to a number of different positions to contribute."

Figueroa, a 16th round pick of the Kansas City Royals in the 2019 MLB Draft was the Bucs second highest ranked player at #39.  "Erick has a lot of potential, his ceiling is very high" Bizier said.  "If he continues to develop, he is going to help us this year" he continued.

Maldonado was also an MLB Draft pick out of high school, going in the 35th round to the New York Mets in June.  "Daniel has dynamic speed" Bizier said.  "If he can figure out how to use it correctly on the field, he will have a chance to make an impact for us."

Coming as no surprise, the state of Florida dominated the rankings with 41 of the 100 players listed hailing from FCSAA teams.  The Suncoast Conference holds 14 of those players including five each from Hillsborough and State College of Florida, the two teams that FSW edged out for the 2019 conference title.

The Bucs continue their fall ball slate on Sunday, October 13th when they will send players to the FCSAA All-Star Weekend in Lakeland.  FSW opens their regular season on January 31st at City of Palms Park when they take on ASA Miami.
