Bucs Take Down #2 Walters State

MARIANNA, FLA.- The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers earned their first win over a ranked team in program history Friday night, downing #2 Walters State 9-6 on a soggy, weather shortened evening in Marianna.

The 2018 National Runner-Up Senators got on the board first in the second inning, using a Buccaneer error to score a run and extend the inning before a balk pushed home the second run to give Walters a 2-0 lead.

FSW answered right away though as Warner Rincones drove home the Bucs first run of the game with a single and Drake Dobyanski knocked in another with a groundout to tie the game at two after two.

Walters retook the lead with a solo home run in the top of the third, but they didn't hold that advantage for long.  The Bucs tied the game on a single from Jose Marcano and took their first lead of the game as Nate Kinsch singled home two behind him to make it 5-3 FSW. They weren't done yet as after their third straight single, Dobyanski came up with the big blow, a three run bomb to right, the Bucs first long ball of the season to stretch the lead to 8-3.

The teams traded runs in the fourth and Walters got two more in the fifth to cut the FSW lead to 9-6 after five complete when the weather hit and forced the suspension and ultimatley the calling of the game.

FSW had eight hits in the contest to seven for Walters.  Marcano, Rincones, and Kinsch each had two hits while Dobyanski provided the bulk of the Bucs offense with four RBI's.  Mitch Myers earned win, going all five innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs.

The Bucs improve to 5-0 on the year and will take on #1 Chipola Saturday afternoon at 4 PM.
